Overview

Located along the quiet stretch of ND-1 in Langdon, North Dakota, At the Hop Bar & Grill offers a straightforward, comforting dining experience that echoes the essence of classic Midwestern hospitality. This bar and grill caters primarily to locals and travelers seeking a no-frills meal paired with friendly service in a relaxed setting.

The heart of the menu lies in its dependable, hearty fare. Weekday buffets shine as a key highlight, featuring an array of traditional North Dakota staples—think well-seasoned meats, potatoes, and warm soups paired with fresh salads. The addition of a dessert rounds out a meal that feels like a nod to homestyle cooking, perfect for chasing away the chill on colder days.

Special nights add a bit of variety and draw in patrons looking for something a little different. The Tuesday steak, shrimp, and walleye offering is notable, delivering satisfying flavors and quality that regularly earns praise. Meanwhile, casual options like their bar-style pizza provide a quick fix when the kitchen isn’t fully operational. While the pizza doesn’t break new ground, its presence demonstrates the establishment’s willingness to accommodate late-night guests with something simple and filling.

The atmosphere is unmistakably that of a classic bar—intimate, unpretentious, and inviting. The space encourages easy conversation and casual relaxation, making it an ideal place to unwind with a few drinks or catch up with friends. Staff are frequently described as welcoming and attentive, fostering a sense of familiarity and comfort that enhances the overall experience. This is a spot where neighbors feel at home and newcomers are quickly brought into the fold.

While families with children might find the environment less suited to their needs due to the bar-centric nature of the venue, adults craving straightforward food and genuine hospitality will appreciate what At the Hop Bar & Grill has to offer. It’s a dependable stop for those passing through Langdon or locals craving a warm meal and a friendly face.

The buffet is served Monday through Friday and has tons of food including the usual North Dakota meat and potatoes. It includes soup and salad. They even throw in a desert. Great food that warms your soul on a cold day.

My husband and I were driving through the town a few weeks ago. It was after 9 p.m., and we were starving. Nothing was open except this bar. We decided to stop in anyway. It was pretty dead except for two women playing slots. We asked the woman behind the bar if the kitchen was open. She said no, but we could have the bar pizza. That was fine. The pizza was nothing special. It was bar pizza. It still wasn't bad. It was nice that the woman working helped us out.

Food was good. I had a cheeseburger and tots. The atmosphere is a bar, and I believe children are not allowed. Otherwise, an okay spot for a bite to eat and a drink.
